Due to a random Lou Diamond Phillips sighting on social media, I discovered a new werewolf movie is set to hit theater screens on December 6th: @WEREWOLVES2024

Running across this news feels serendipitous, coinciding with my recent werewolf culture immersion due to this blog here at Rugaru.com. It wasn’t a situation of being served werewolf content because the algorithm picked up on my special interest; rather it was just me noticing Lou Diamond Phillips taking someone to task on the platform formerly known as Twitter. Being technically Gen X, my ears perk up when I hear names like LDP’s that have sort of been lost to the sands of time if you weren’t somebody who was around during the era of Stand and Deliver and La Bamba. So I felt compelled to tap over to his profile and there this movie was, a few tweets down in his feed:
Really looking forward to this one!!! #WEREWOLVES @Werewolves2024 pic.twitter.com/wzeVNuU7wH

If it weren’t for diving into this werewolf blog, I wouldn’t notice something like this movie or plan to see it. I’ve only seen three movies in the theater since before stay-at-home orders / “post”-pandemic.
It’s not so much that I’m afraid of getting infected by contagions, but that going out to the movies is no longer the magical thing it was in my younger years. I blame cell phones / mobile devices and people’s addictions to them, but I digress. Suffice to say, I don’t feel excited to plan on seeing things on the big screen purely for recreational purposes anymore. I need a reason that helps overcome the torture of sharing what used to be a sacred event (moviegoing) with this century’s general public. “Research” for a werewolf blog could be one of those reasons. I’m honestly MORE motivated by the fact that I don’t have any strong hyped-up affection for werewolves than I would be if it were the kind of movie I feel super-passionate about. Seriously – I am one of those people who saw certain movies MULTIPLE times while they were in the theater. Like … I saw Pulp Fiction three times on the big screen. And I would have seen it more if I could have afforded it and didn’t have a full-time job with limited free time.
Honestly? I’m pretty excited by this trailer:
Loud popcorn-shoveling action-packed horror with practical effects prioritized may be the antidote to a lot of the shit I can no longer abide from fellow moviegoers. No need to pay close attention to dialog; in fact, it’s probably better if you don’t listen closely at all. Who really needs to hear that defiant “BITE ME!” line again? I don’t.
I love the idea of the moon itself — a SUPERmoon event, nature — changing people. NO BITE REQUIRED. Just the supernatural on a massive scale. LOVE the premise of the moon triggering a latent human gene. I’m very into “werewolves” who are more man than monster, or more to the point: humans being more or less infected or cursed from birth with monstrous tendencies.
I’m also aroused by almost-sixty Italian stallion Frank Grillo in the very-physical starring role. But, like I said: I really just want to go see him the movie on the big screen for “research”. 😉
